Sue Sprague - Pottery
I've been creating both functional and decorative pottery since 1997, finding joy and purpose in molding clay into tangible pieces of art. My work is a reflection of a deep-seated love for the tactile and transformative nature of pottery, where every piece begins as a simple lump of clay and evolves into something both beautiful and useful. I take great pleasure in adding vibrant colors and intricate surface decorations to my greenware and bisque, employing a variety of techniques that I've honed over the years. From Sgraffito to Mishima, and hand painting, each method allows me to decorate my wheel thrown and slab built pieces, making every creation uniquely mine. I balance my time between the solitude of my studio to the enriching environment of taking classes at Yavapai College, online videos and traveling to conferences and workshops from pottery masters. I continually seek to expand my knowledge and refine my craft. This commitment to growth ensures that each piece of pottery I create is not only aesthetically pleasing but also embodies the latest in ceramic techniques and trends. My husband and I moved to Prescott from Tucson in 2017 after retiring. We enjoy traveling, family time with our children and grandchildren and playing with our miniature golden doodle. I participate in Prescott’s Open Studio Tour and Prescott’s Mud Makers Group.
