Kelly Cole Jones - Glass Artist

In my journey as a kiln-formed glass artist, I aim to capture the delicate essence of nature's whimsy through the vibrant medium of glass. Inspired by the intricate beauty of floral landscapes, my work is a celebration of the ephemeral and the eternal, blending the fragility of petals with the enduring strength of glass. In kiln formed glass, all the heat work is done within the kiln.

But from the very first time I melted glass in my hands with a torch I knew it was the only art I wanted to continue to pursue.  It’s like magic! And it’s extremely difficult to master, so I will continue learning for the rest of my life – and the learning is the most fun. I then discovered all the wonderful ways to combine the two glass art forms (kiln-formed glass and torched or lampwork glass). I am continually learning and growing in the versatile medium of glass.

My latest endeavor is to make my own glass murrine – the little slices of glass cane which contain a pattern such as a flower, ladybug or butterfly. Murrine-making is done by creating the pattern about 4x4” inside a pot, which is then heated to 1500 degrees, and pulled out into a thin cane through a hole in the bottom of the kiln. Once I master this technique, I hope to use more murrine in my glasswork. There is an infinite number of ways glass can be melted together, cut and melted again.
