Hand Blown Glass & Textile Weaving
|
Glass blowing is the art of the ancients. Of all the sorts of media I've manipulated over the years, glass is by far the most alluring: a truly molten transformation with qualities that can be captured in the moment. While hot it's an ever moving, soft, thick liquid: very different from the cold sharp qualities usually attributed to glass. It is also the most physically demanding, labor intensive process I've ever encountered. One distinction I would like people to know about my glass work is that I blow glass alone. Most glass blowers have at least an assistant, if not a team. I enjoy being in the studio and working out a process to execute my vision while still being open to seize the elusive motion that is ever-present, but constantly changing while working with hot glass. I took my first glass blowing class at the local community college in 1982 and have been devoted to the spectacle of it all ever since. I eventually taught glass blowing and ceramics at the same community college for a number of years. I am a founding member of Arts Prescott. My husband and I are both self-employed artists and Arizona natives who have been residing in Prescott for the past seventeen years. |
